Michael Brinkworth
More music than man. Berlin-based Australian folk troubadour Michael Brinkworth writes and sings in the tradition of the timeless greats. Imagine The Band, Neil Young, Springsteen, Dylan and Waits all taking a road trip through the Australiana heartland, with Wilco and The Replacements on the stereo all along the way.
A tireless headliner across Europe, Australia and North America, Brinkworth’s backpack is stuffed full of heartfelt, road-worn songs. When he performs, he pulls us along on those journeys, down sparkling highways and into the deep night-time city.
Rhythmic country guitar, entrancing harmonica and a soulful voice combine to expose the rawness at the heart of the songwriting. Brinkworth does music the old way, the right way: vulnerable, sincere, and as honest as an old pair of traveller’s boots.
The first single, One More Time (Just For Fun), from his upcoming album was released November 1st on all streaming platforms. As described by A&R Factory, “For any fans of Kurt Vile...its soundscape is soaked in a nostalgic tobacco haze” with ”plenty of sleek modern alchemy weaved in” and its “arrestive electric guitar riffs” make it “one of those tracks which immediately offers you rewarding catharsis as soon as you hit play. It’s not all too often you’ll get to hear that from a breaking artist”. Second single, Liguria, was released on December 13th. Third single, Thick Skin, comes out on January 24, 2020.
The full LP, Wasted Wonder, will follow in May 2020. It was recorded with his full band lineup at Berlin’s Famous Gold Watch Studios on the studio’s eponymous label. Greywood Records released Brinkworth’s debut album Somewhere to Run From in 2017, described by Roadtracks as “fresh and relevant” and by Lie in the Sound as “intense but without pretension”.
