Das Schöne an B-Seiten ist ihr unprätentiöser Charakter. Im Schatten der A-Seite erheben sie nicht von vornherein den Anspruch, großartige Hits zu sein, sie müssen sich nicht verbiegen und suchen auch nicht geschmäcklerisch ihre Hörerschaft – dennoch haben sie das Potential, sich als unvergessliche Ohrwürmer durchzusetzen. Ähnlich verhält es sich bei der Musik der Folk-Pop-Band THE SAY HIGHS: seit ihrer Gründung 2005 in Berlin schreibt und produziert die Band um Dave McGinty und Guido Kreutzmüller in bester Folktradition unaufgeregte B-Seiten und Albumtitel, die sie seither auf unzählige Straßen, Bühnen, Clubs, Theater, Bars und Wohnzimmerstühle geführt hat – inklusive Support-Gigs für Bands wie Blumfeld, The Posies, Kula Shaker, The Sea and Cake, Jack Penate und The Twang.
Keine Frage, der besondere Charme eines SAY HIGHS Songs liegt im subtilen Bruch, in der Zartheit der Wendungen und den anklingenden Details. Als raffiniert gestaltete Kollagen kommen die Songs live wie auf Album als Gesamtkunstwerke daher, in dem die Lust am experimentellen Zusammenspiel in jedem Moment hörbar ist. Die Close-Harmony-Vocals, der Rauch in den Stimmen, der holzige Sound der beiden Takamines, Blues-Harp, Glockenspiel, die vielen kleinen Ideen, die durch die Melodien wehen – das zusammen fühlt sich gleichzeitig an wie ein Winterabend am Kamin oder ein Nachmittag im Frühsommer.
Mit ihrem derzeitigen Live-Programm "Songs for two – Acoustic & Seated" gehen THE SAY HIGHS nun zurück zu Ihren Wurzeln und präsentieren ihre Songs in reinster Form und so wie sie entstanden sind. In anderen Worten: Maximum Folk.
JOE ARMSTRONG
Geboren in Glasgow, brach der Sänger und Gitarrist JOE ARMSTRONG bereits mit 20 von Schottland aus auf, um sein musikalisches Handwerk zu lernen. In den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten hat er buchstäblich jedes europäische Land und jeden Staat der USA bereist und dort mit unzähligen Musikern gespielt.
Diese Reisen ins Innere der Musik haben ihn und seinen Stil nachhaltig geprägt und gaben ihm ein unschätzbares Wissen über Folk, Country and Blues sowie seiner erste Liebe, den Rock 'n' Roll. Im Laufe der Jahre nahm JOE ARMSTRONG Platten auf und tourte u.a. mit Two Dollar Bash, Impure Thoughts, Nikki Sudden und The Methylated Spirits.

The beauty of B-sides is their unpretentious character. In the Shadow of the A-side, they do not lay a priori claim to be great hits, they do not have to bend and look for tastes of their audience - yet they have the potential to assert themselves as unforgettable catchy tunes. The situation is similar in the music of the folk-pop band THE SAY HIGHS: since its founding 2005 in Berlin the band of Dave McGinty and Guido Kreutz Müller writes and produces unexcited B-sides and album tracks in the best folk tradition which it has led on countless streets, stages, clubs, theaters, bars and lounge chairs - including support gigs for bands like Blumfeld, The Posies, Kula Shaker, The Sea and Cake, Jack Penate and The Twang.
No question, the special charm of a SAY HIGHS songs lies in the subtle break in the delicacy of turns and the hinted details. As cleverly designed collages their songs grow live as on album to a complete work of art, therefore, in which the desire to experimental interaction is audible in every moment. The close-harmony vocals, the smoke in the voices, the woody sound of the Takamine, blues harp, glockenspiel, the many small ideas that blow through the melodies - that together feels simultaneously like a winter evening by the fire or a afternoon in early summer.
With her current live program "Songs for Two - Acoustic & Seated" THE SAY HIGHS now go back to the roots and showcase their songs in their purest form and as they are incurred. In other words: maximum folk.
JOE ARMSTRONG
Born in Glasgow, the singer and guitarist JOE ARMSTRONG already broke up with 20 from Scotland to learn his musical craft. In the last two decades, he has literally traveled every European country and every state in the U.S. and played there with countless musicians.
These trips into the interior of music have influenced him and his style sustainable and gave him an invaluable knowledge of folk, country and blues as well as his first love, rock 'n' roll. Over the years JOE ARMSTRONG took on records and toured for example with Two Dollar Bash, Impure Thoughts, Nikki Sudden and The Methylated Spirits.
