Ten years ago, I recorded music during the afternoons after school with a portable mini-disc recorder, the mic-input of my computer, a borrowed microphone and for some songs even a proper, borrowed audio-interface. I put it on a CD and since i did it without the bands I was playing with at that time, it seemed appropriate to call it "Hans Solo". On December 16th 2007, I gave it to my friends. I couldn't sing very well back then and pretty much all of the songs are about being a lonely teenager in a small town far away from anything interesting. But still, it was when I noticed I really like this thing – writing and recording music – and it marks the beginning of my musical journey. (I woudn't quite call it a career) So the tenth anniversary of that date seems like a good reason to celebrate.
For this special occasion, I will do something that I have done countless times in other cities, but never in Berlin: Play an entire solo set. I will play some songs of that first CD, even though few people will know them and most are not really playable live. I will play songs from my two proper albums and some from my third, that I'm working on right now. I won't play the hits. You've all heard me play those. I will play the weird shit – the songs that are too long, too quiet or too electronic for my usual sets. Maybe also a cover or two. I'm very much looking forward to it. I hope to see many of you at Deriva. Plus, it's close to Christmas. I might even bring Spekulatius.
