Viljami Nissi - Summertime Sadness
"On the third day God created a tree, on the fourth a rope, and on the fifth a beautiful young man. On the sixth day, however, the young man hung himself to his satisfaction, with God watching wistfully from the side. On the seventh day, the seeds that flew into the ground grew plants that soon shrouded a tree with their flowers, where the young man still hung lifeless. One day these plants would rise, and inhabit the whole land with their offspring."
Viljami Nissi (b. 1994, Kannus) is a Helsinki-based visual artist and performer who graduated from Kankaanpää School of Art, majoring in Performance Art. His practice often interrogates and twists different thematics associated with sexuality, fetishes, fantasy, spirituality, and masculinity. In his installations, he often creates fictional tales by exploring alternative realities that are still linked to old histories, and reimagines mythological forms. Through this process, he facilitates the act of role playing and storytelling through image, text, and sculpture Summertime Sadness is Nissi’s first exhibition in Germany.

Sommertraurigkeit
“Am dritten Tag erschuf Gott einen Baum, am vierten einen Strick und am fünften einen schönen jungen Mann. Am sechsten Tag erhängte sich der junge Man jedoch zu seiner Zufriedenheit, während Gott wehmütig zusah. Am siebten Tag wurden die Samen, die zu Boden fielen, zu Pflanzen, die bald einen Baum in ihre Blumen hüllten, wo der junge Mann leblos hing. Eines Tages würden diese Pflanzen aufsteigen und mit ihren Nachkommen das ganze Land bevölkern."
Viljami Nissi (geb. 1994, Kannus) ist ein in Helsinki lebender bildender Künstler und Performer, der einen Abschluss von der Kankaanpää School of Art hat. Sein Hauptfach war Performancekunst. In seine Arbeit hinterfragt und twistet er oft verschiedene Thematiken in Verbindung mit Sexualität, Fetischen, Fantasie, Spiritualität und Männlichkeit. In seinen Installationen erzählt er oft fiktive Märchen, indem er andere Realitäten erkundet, die mit alten Geschichten verbunden sind und erfindet mythologische Gestalten neu. Durch diesen Prozess ermöglicht er den Akt des Rollenspiels und des Geschichtenerzählens anhand von Bildern, Text und Skulpturen. Sommertraurigkeit ist Nissis’s erste Ausstellung in Deutschland.
