since always, anna schmitzberger is fascinated by light painting.
following the example of napoletan figures lightened at night, displaying holy mary or jesus, the idea was born to enlighten sacred elements out of the darkness.
she decided to symbolize different gods, godesses and saints from diverse cultures, regions and epoches.
due to the uncommon illumination done with a torch and a very long exposure, in wich the model isn't allowed to move od even to blink, the picture gets much softer and dreamier than it would using common lightning, moreover the portrayed figure shines and gleames in a strongly spiritual matter.

Our ship has reached its destination port. We arrived in our motherland, our true home and thus our ground and land.
The photographic exhibition of the German - Italian Thomas Munns, which bears the title "Heimat" shows, and seales the indissoluble bond between man and nature, a relationship that is based on their kinship and especially on spirituality.
-Heimat- could therefore represent the powerful mother, the sacred origin, which is present in many popular mythologies. In these, the femininity of the earth, the archetype of the ambivalent power of the mediator between the people and the gods.
In Thomas Munns' case there is no difference between man and nature, as we are all a part of it. The experience with the created leads for the photographer to a truly divine experience.
The photographic work of Thomas Munns creates a sense of "devotion", result of personally experienced and self-challenge, which is witnessed by the photographs.
To photograph and climb the Dolomites meant for Munns a meeting and a confrontation with oneself and one's own limits. A moment in which he is facilitating the reunion with the infinite, and recognizes how majestic a return to the homeland is.
-Heimat- is a work that in several aspects evokes the themes of German Romanticism of the early nineteenth century. We remember the painter Caspar David Friedrich and his majestic views. So Thomas Munns wants us, with his great visual and spiritual collection of images, metaphors of divinity, to experience in a flash moment an encounter between macro and micro cosmos.
