Kunstfabrik Schlot freut sich, Sie herzlich zur ersten Einzelausstellung von Luis dos Santos einzuladen. Gegenstand der Ausstellung ist eine Auswahl einzigartiger Fotografien seiner Besuche geheimnisvoller DDR-Relikte, die von verlassenen Heilanstalten über Artefakte des Kalten Krieges, verfallene Kirchen und Vergnügungsparks bis zu Nazi-Bunkern reichen.
Wahrend Architektur- und Dokumentarfotografen wie Dieter Rams, Robert Polidori und Edward Bartynsky sein Werk beeinflusst haben, gehen dos Santos Arbeiten jedoch weit über die Dokumentarfotografie hinaus. Sein meistervoller Umgang mit High Dynamic Range Fotografie als Ausdrucksmittel seiner kreativen Vision, bringt durch das austarierte Gleichgewicht von Realismus und Abstraktion die versteckte Schonheit und architektonische Mystik verlassener historischer Orte zum Vorschein. Dos Santos Fotografien verleihen Orten des Verlassens, des Verfalls Bedeutung und eroffnen dem Auge eine ratselhafte Harmonie und Eleganz. Durch sein Auflehnen gegen die Endgültigkeit von Verlust und Ablehnung, bewahrt Luis dos Santos verlassene bauliche Schatze vor der Vergessenheit.

Die Schlot-Kellergewolbe der alten Fabrik bieten eine einzigartige Umgebung für Ausstellung und Vernissage. Wahrend der Vernissage wird es auch die Moglichkeit zum Austausch mit dem Fotografen und anderen Künstlern geben, die die Vergangenheit Ost-Deutschlands durch das Wiederentdecken verlassener Orte dokumentieren. Wir hoffen, dass Sie diese besondere Gelegenheit nutzen, um einen Einblick in die aufstrebende Kunstform der Urban Exploration Fotografie zu erhalten und freuen uns über Ihre Teilnahme.
Gefolgt wird die Vernissage von den harmonisch transparenten und lyrischen Jazz-Kompositionen des Matthias Rethbertg Trios.
Biografie des Fotografen:
Luis dos Santos ist ein portugiesischer Fotograf, dessen Arbeitsmittelpunkt derzeit in Berlin liegt. Seine künstlerische Entwicklung begann mit analoger Fotografie und schließt mittlerweile auch die grenzenlosen Moglichkeiten der digitalen Fotografie ein. Seine Leidenschaft für die Fotografie zeitgenossischer und historischer Architektur hat ihn rund um den Globus geführt. Dos Santos Arbeiten waren Gegenstand vieler internationaler Ausstellungen und genießen ein hohes Ansehen in der Online-Fotografie-Community. Sie zierten die Titelseiten diverser dem stadtischen Verfall gewidmeten Leitartikel.

Take an invitation by Luis dos Santos to see his first solo exhibition in Berlin featuring a selection of his unique photographs showcasing some of his adventures in East German abandoned locations, ranging from rarely seen German abandoned asylums, Nazi bunkers and cold war artifacts, to derelict churches and entertainment parks.
While architecture and documentary photographers such as Dieter Rams, Robert Polidori and Edward Bartynsky have been influential in his practice, dos Santos-™ work reaches far beyond the realms of documentary photography. Masterfully using high dynamic range photography as a tool to express his creative vision, dos Santos finds a delicate balance between realism and abstraction to bring out the hidden beauty and architectural mystique of abandoned historical locations. His photographs turn places of abandonment and neglect into meaningful and powerful spaces, full of elegance and enigmatic harmony. Constantly refusing the finality of loss and rejection, the photography of LuAs dos Santos saves abandoned urban treasures from slipping into oblivion.

The Schlot-™s cellar rooms of a converted old factory and vaulted ceilings offer the unique setting for the exhibition and the opening reception. During the opening visitors will be able to talk to the photographer as well as meet other artists also working on documenting East Germany-™s past by re-discovering abandoned locations. We hope you will join us and take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain a rare insight into urban exploration photography as an emerging art form.
The opening will be followed by the concert of Matthias Rethberg Trio, with its harmonically transparent and lyrical jazz compositions.
Bio of the Photographer:
LuAs dos Santos is a Portuguese photographer currently working in Berlin. His artistic practice began with analog photography and has now expanded to include the limitless possibilities of digital art. His passion for photographing both contemporary and historical architecture has brought him to several locations around the world. Dos Santos has participated in numerous international exhibitions and is highly acclaimed in the online photography community. His work has been featured on the front pages of several editorials devoted to urban decay.
