"In recent years, my paintings have focused on human effects and their momentariness in nature." In gallery Pleiku, I present new tempera paintings from the series Split Landscapes. "These works study power relations, constitution of time and the ability Rocks, blown up and split to make space for highways, serve as the starting point for the series.
How does nature adapt to its surroundings after a radical and violent explosion of a rock? My paintings study time and how nature continues its cyclical function in human action. Past and present meet in split landscapes: rock formations from millions of years ago, sudden human action, and nascent tree saplings. Split Landscapes demonstrations how the illusion of human omnipotence breaks down. These landscapes are road sides - roads did connect people but cut up rest of the nature to narrow strips.
My landscapes study and reachable nature, scenes that we take for granted, the background of our lives. Nearby nature shows what happens when rolled out and unplanned development meet. Things we see as self-evident are oft incomprehensible if we switch our perspective and ask what would nature think of our actions. "
Sanna Kananoja (b. 1979) lives and works in Turku, Finland. She has worked as a professional artist since 2010 with several private and joint exhibitions.

Split landscapes
"In recent years, my works have focused on the human effects on nature and our short-lived life. In the gallery Pleiku I now present new tempera paintings from the series "Shared Landscapes". These works examine power structures, time and how nature adapts to external forces. Blasted rocks that have been cleared for new highways serve as the starting point of the series.
How does nature deal with such drastic changes as a blasted rock? My paintings examine the time and how nature continues its natural cycle despite the human impact. Past and present meet in shared landscapes: millions of years old rock formations, sudden human impacts and freshly planted trees. Shared Landscapes demonstrates how the illusion of a human superiority collapses. These landscapes can be found right on the roadside - roads that connect people but divides the rest of nature into small strips.
My landscapes explore the everyday, tangible nature, the smells we take for granted when we first get used to them as a minor part of our lives. This surrounding nature shows what happens when planned decisions make unplanned developments. Things we take for granted are often incomprehensible if you change only the perspective and wonders what nature would think of it well. " Sanna Kananoja (born 1979) lives and works in Turku, Finland. She has been working as a professional artist since 2010 and has already had several private and shared exhibitions.
