Science Café: How Do We Make Decisions
Economist Filip Matějka about behavioural economics and what influences our decision making in general

Economist Filip Matějka was awarded the Neuron prize for young talented scientists in 2016 in the field of social sciences even though he studied mathematics and physics. So what how do all these academic fields connect? In his research, Filip Matějka combines the theory of rational inattention by Nobel laureate Christopher Sims with classic economics. Linking classic behavioural economics with economic theories he explains the behaviour of people and states. He is also working on a project to help inattentive (normal) citizens to not get lost in laws. He is an Associate Professor with Tenure at CERGE, Charles University, Prague, and a Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Science Café is a series of popular science presentations and talks by the best Czech scientists of today. It is organized by the Czech Centre Berlin, the Czexperts Network and the Neuron Foundation, Prague. Each year the Neuron Foundation gives out the Neuron Impulse grants to outstanding basic research projects and celebrates the best scientists with the Neuron Awards.

The talk and the discussion will be in English.
