DESCRIPTION:Community talk + Q&amp\;A + Poetry Performance► August 14th\, 2018 with Maytha AlhassenCome down to be’kech for a very special event on 14th August\, where we will be joined by Maytha Alhassen to discuss her work on breaking down barriers into pop-culture and mainstream media\, particularly for those from minority backgrounds.Maytha Alhassen is a Syrian-American journalist\, poet and scholar. Her work bridges the worlds of social justice\, academic research\, media engagement and artistic expression.Amongst her wide-ranging portfolio of work\, Alhassen has been consulting on the depiction of Arabs and Muslims for documentaries\, major studio films and TV shows. She is currently advising on the development a TV show on the Muslim American experience.
