Cursed be the Phosphate takes its audience back to January 2008\, when a group of unemployed youths organised a sit in in the phosphate-producing town Redeyef. The Abu Dhabi Film Festival's Best Arab Documentary identifies the labor strike as a key precursor of Tunisia's revolution. Im Anschluss an den Film moderiert Viola Shafiq die anschließende Diskussion. Der Film wird gezeigt im Rahmen einer 3-teiligen Reihe in Kooperation mit Mayadin al-Tahrir e.V. und EUME (Europa im Nahen Osten – der Nahe Osten in Europa)\, einem Forschungsprogramm am Berliner Forum Transregionale Studien.
