Pramiert werden die besten und eindrucksvollsten Fotos des zurückliegenden Jahres\, ausgewahlt von einer internationalen Jury. Die Stiftung "World Press Photo" vergibt jedes Jahr in 18 Kategorien Preise für die besten Pressefotos. Eine international besetzte Jury aus 19 Fotografen wahlte das "World Press Photo" aus mehr als 100.000 Fotografien aus.
